A man got the shock of his life when he noticed a car spinning in circles with no one sitting in the driver’s seat.

“I've lived out here a long time, and I've seen a lot, but I've never seen anything like this before,” Tommy Anderson told KCBS.

Anderson spotted the driverless vehicle doing doughnuts in the middle of a busy Los Angeles street. Just moments before he began recording video, a man jumped on top of the roof in an attempt to stop it, Anderson said.

Once police arrived on the scene, they blocked off the street and finally stopped the car from spinning by placing a strip of spikes on the ground.

“I was actually pretty worried about the officers, they were getting pretty close, and who knows, it's a driverless car, you never know which direction that thing may go,” Anderson said.

Authorities say that no one was injured and the car was eventually towed away. Police reportedly say the incident may have been the result of a mechanical error.
