Patch the Rescue Dog Loses It When His Owner Returns Home After a Week in Hospital

A video shows Patch the dog leaping into his dad's arms when he arrives home from hospital.

Mark O'Neill had been away for just a week when he was reunited with his pup, Patch.

But to Patch, it clearly felt like far, far longer.

In an adorable video shared by the Scottish SPCA, Patch leaps into his dad's arms when he walks through the door after a week-long hospital visit.

"It's your daddy!" Mark's partner, Kerrigan Renniegade says, laughing.

For a full minute, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier wriggles and writhes with excitement as he showers Mark with kisses– all while Mark can do nothing but laugh.

Speaking to INSIDE EDITION, Kerrigan said: "Patch is always happy to see anyone when they come to our home but we had never seen him react like this before.

"Mark and Patch have a great bond so I knew that filming Mark coming home after a week in hospital would be worth it."

The couple adopted Patch last May from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals center in Lanarkshire, Scotland. They learned Patch had been a stray who was handed over to a police station.

"Since then we have fallen in love with him," she said. "He has become a real member of the family."

And they're not the only ones who've been won over.

"He has loads of doggy friends in the local park and everyone that has met him absolutely loves him," Kerrigan added. "He hates the rain but absolutely LOVES tummy rubs!"

She said she's overjoyed at the response to the video "due to the awful stigma attached to the breed."

"I just really want everyone to see that it's the way that you love and care for a dog that will determine who they grow to be and there are loads of dogs just like Patch waiting on their forever homes!" she said.
