The woman had picked up the man in a taxi cab after he had been out partying, reports say.
A Texas man allegedly beat, ran over and threatened to rape a 70-year-old woman who had picked him up in a taxi cab in Aruba, police said.
Patrick Maxwell, 30, was held without bond after he was charged with attempted rape and aggravated assault in the Saturday attack on the elderly woman, Public Prosecution spokeswoman Ann Angela told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
Authorities said Maxwell hailed a cab from a club on his last night in Aruba, where he and colleagues from a real estate company were celebrating sales achievements.
He reportedly asked taxi driver Grace Angela to stop at a pharmacy on the way to the hotel, but he refused to get out of the cab and became violent.
Maxwell allegedly started shouting at Angela and hit her in the face as he threatened to rape her, the AP wrote.
He allegedly followed her out of the cab and continued to hit her. He then jumped back into the vehicle and fled, running over her midsection and legs.
Angela was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for seven broken ribs, a broken nose and injured legs, officials said.

Maxwell allegedly did not remember much of what happened, his attorney Chris Lejuez told the AP.
“He did consume alcohol, but that does not explain what may have triggered his actions,” the lawyer said.
Maxwell works as a real estate agent at NetWorth Realty in Austin, according to his LinkedIn profile.
An official with the company told the AP he could not immediately comment on the case.
His profile noted he served as an infantry squad leader in the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years.
He was responsible in part for guarding the president at Camp David, as well as training troops. He was honorably discharged in 2011 before voluntarily returning to Iraq in 2014 to join Kurdish security forces, according to a New York Times profile.
Maxwell is due back in court for his first hearing on February 9.
