BMX legend and MTV star David Mirra has committed suicide at age 41, police say.
MTV star and BMX legend Dave Mirra has died at age 41 after he committed suicide in a friend's driveway, authorities said.
North Carolina police discovered Mirra's body sitting in his truck with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, People magazine reported.
"We have been able to determine Mirra's own gun was used, and all preliminary findings of the medical examiner on-scene point to suicide," Greenville police said in a statement.
He had been visiting with friends, then got into his vehicle and shot himself while sitting in the friend's driveway, police said.
"It's clear Dave struggled with internal demons-tragically, to the point where he chose to take his own life. It is our job now, not just as law enforcement, but as a community, to provide the support and resources necessary to help his family and friends get through this," the police statement said.

Mirra hosted two seasons of MTV's "Real World/Road Rule Challenge" and was a major BMX star who won 14 gold medals at the X Games.
"Dave Mirra was to BMX what Michael Jordan was to the NBA, what Babe Ruth or Hank Aaron was to Major League Baseball. He was simply the best of the best," said WNCT-TV sports director Brian Bailey.
Along with his BMX career, Mirra also hosted two seasons of Real World/Road Rule Challenge on MTV.
Mirra is survived by his wife Lauren and two children.
