Now, after 143,846,525 miles of space traveled, 5,440 orbits and 10,260 sunrises and sunsets, he arrives back on March 1.
Throughout his time on the ISS, Kelly has teased us Earthlings on social media with brilliant photos of our planet, while also giving a glimpse at what life is like in outer space.
After four missions, the 52-year-old has spent a total of 522 days in space, setting a new record for the most time spent there.
To celebrate his homecoming and achievement, InsideEdition.com is taking a look back at his best moments on top of the world.
He arrived at ISS on March 27, 2015.
Since his entry as commander of ISS, he has shown off what space has to offer.
He occupied his time by playing ping pong with a drop of water.
He also showed what the world looked like during a snowstorm.
As well as a hurricane.
Each morning, he would take shots of the Earth awakening to the sun.
Kelly and the crew grew flowers in space for the first time.

He also showed off how he had Thanksgiving dinner.
After a fresh fruit delivery to the space station, he played with his food by juggling lemons at zero gravity.

During the course of his tenure in space, he and members of the crew had to go outside their vessel to work on the space station.
While the time in space was serious, there was time for some monkey business.
Needed a little humor to lighten up a #YearInSpace. Go big, or go home. I think I'll do both. #SpaceApehttps://t.co/Ift8VdDR4C
