Porche Larona Washington pleaded no contest to attempted murder in a court appearance Wednesday and was immediately sentenced.
A 33-year-old woman who buried her newborn infant alive under a pile of rubble near a Southern California bike path was sentenced to 14 years in state prison, officials said.

Her 3-day-old infant was found abandoned in a hole near a Compton riverbed by two passersby on Nov. 27, 2015, authorities said.

"As they searched, deputies heard a baby’s muffled cry and located a newborn baby girl buried alive under pieces of asphalt and rubble inside a crevice located along the bike path,” the LASD said in a statement.
The baby girl was found wrapped in a blanket and was cold to the touch, authorities said. She was hospitalized and was last reported to be in good condition.
Washington was arrested six days later, officials said.

Investigators said she hid her pregnancy.
The child was abandoned while she still fell within the age window covered by California's Safe Surrender Law, which allows a parent to leave a baby at any hospital or fire station in Los Angeles County with no questions asked. Babies three days old or younger are covered by this law.
Washington also admitted to a special allegation that she committed great bodily harm on her newborn, the DA’s office said Wednesday.
