Staffers found the body of Carolyn Robinson after her family called to say she never came home after her shift ended.
A 61-year-old woman was found dead inside a walk-in freezer at the well-known Atlanta hotel where she worked after her family called to say she never came home, police said.
Carolyn Robinson was found about 9 a.m. Tuesday at the downtown Westin Peachtree Plaza.
The kitchen worker may have entered the freezer in the lower level kitchen area just after 8 p.m. Monday, but authorities do not suspect foul play, Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton said at a press conference.
“It doesn’t appear that it’s going to be a criminal matter,” Hampton told reporters.
Evidence suggests Robinson may have tried to get out of the freezer, which has an exit mechanism, but it was not clear if it was working properly, Hampton said.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine if Robinson had a preexisting condition that could have contributed to her inability to get out.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office told InsideEdition.com that it may take a few weeks to determine an official cause and manner of death.
After Robinson failed to return home from work, her family called the hotel, Hampton said.
Hotel staffers found her body inside the freezer and called the police, he continued.
A spokeswoman for the hotel told reporters that Westin staff members are working with authorities in their investigation.
“We are devastated by the tragic loss of our long-time associate and member of our Westin family,” hotel spokeswoman Sally McDonald said in a statement, Channel 2 Action News reported.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident with the assistance of Atlanta police, Hampton said.

“We are and will assist OSHA in any way necessary,” he said.
