Nicholas Vought of Palm Beach County, Florida is accused of tossing a homemade firebomb at a home after warning his son's mother to get the boy out.
A Florida man was arrested this week after he allegedly tossed a firebomb at the home occupied by his young son and his mother.
Nicholas James Vought was arrested on Thursday and charged with arson Thursday thanks to GPS data from his work vehicle that investigators say placed him at the scene of the crime.
Early that morning, police say Vought sent a threatening text message to his ex-girlfriend that urged her to get out of the suburban Boca Raton home, the Palm Beach Post reports.
“I’ll fight you to the end,” he wrote, according to a police report. “Burn, get (our son) out, burn.”
Police say Vought then tossed a glass container full of gasoline onto the roof of the home.
Soon after, the woman's father, who also lives in the home, was able to extinguish the ensuing fire with a garden hose.
An investigation undertaken later that same day traced the phone allegedly used to text the woman to Vought's employer, an air-conditioning company.
When questioned by police, Vought's employer reportedly told them it was a work-issued phone used only by Vought.
The employer also allegedly told police that the work van Vought drove for the company was equipped with GPS tracking.

When the GPS tracking information was reviewed, detectives say the data revealed the van was in the victim's neighborhood at the time of the alleged arson.
Vought was arrested and charged with 1st degree arson, throwing an explosive, possessing an incendiary device and with making threats.
A judge set bond at $125,000 Friday morning. It was not clear if Vought had retained an attorney as of Saturday afternoon.
