John Travolta and Kelly Preston are ecstatic over the birth of their new baby boy. INSIDE EDITION has the scoop on the celebrity couple's new addition to their family.
It's a boy for John Travolta and Kelly Preston!
Benjamin Travolta weighed in at 8 pounds, 3 ounces.
"John, Kelly and their daughter Ella Bleu are ecstatic and very happy about the newest member of the family," the Travoltas said in a statement. "Both mother and baby are healthy and doing beautifully."
Baby Benjamin was born Tuesday in a Florida hospital, close to the Travolta's estate in Ocala. They live in Jumbolair, a lavish aviation community with one of the largest private airstrips in the world.
It's believed that the couple, devout Scientologists, opted to have a so-called "silent birth." That's the controversial practice recommended by the Church of Scientology involving total silence in the delivery room. Actress Leah Remini, also a scientologist, used the technique. On a Vh1 documentary, Remini could be seen yanking on a bedsheet to help her get through the childbirth in silence.
Preston said, "I think it makes a lot of sense to most people."
Preston spoke to INSIDE EDITION about the practice in 2006, when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were in the spotlight for using silent birth to have Suri.
Preston said, "You want to bring the baby into as calm and peaceful and quiet and happy an environment as possible. So no spoken words as much as possible is best for the baby."
Preston is 48-years-old. Only 7 births per 10,000 women occur in the USA each year for women over age 45.
Two years ago the Travoltas lost their 16-year-old son Jett after he suffered a fatal seizure during a family vacation in the Bahamas.
Now, with a new addition to the family this Thanksgiving week, they certainly have a lot to be thankful for.
