Liccardo, a Democrat and Hillary Clinton supporter, told the Associated Press: “At some point Donald Trump needs to take responsibility for the irresponsible behavior of his campaign.”
Trump spoke in the city Thursday night at a rally inside the San Jose Convention Center. But after his speech ended, supporters were greeted by a mob of protesters outside the venue.
One young woman tried to take on the protesters on her own and proudly showed off her Trump shirt. She was hit in the face with a watermelon and eggs.
A local news reporter said the Trump supporters were "chased down like prey."
One young man, who wore a shirt that said “Build A Wall,” a nod to Trump’s stance on immigration, had the shirt ripped off his back. He was attacked by six men.
Protesters were filmed burning American flags and throwing eggs, punches and bottles at supporters. Many spectators who were leaving the venue had their cars banged on by the violent mob.
San Jose Police said they made “a few arrests” during the melee. A police spokesperson told ABC News: “As of this time, we do not have specific information on the arrests made. There has been no significant property damage reported."

Rally last night in San Jose was great. Tremendous love and enthusiasm in the hall. Big crowd. Outside, small group of thugs burned Am flag!
