A New York man's luxurious life on the lam, which he flaunted on social media as he evaded prison, has come to a halt after he was returned to the U.S. to serve time for a vicious assault, authorities said.
Ronald DeJesus Plaza, 25, began serving a 10-year prison sentence Monday after spending seven months taunting authorities over Instagram, posting photos as he lounged at posh hotels in Mexico, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office said.

Plaza, of Westchester, posted photos of himself behind the wheel of a Lamborghini, relaxing in a bathtub and photos of an expensive liquor with a message for Assistant District Attorney Karl Miller, who prosecuted his case, officials said.
“Salute Mr. Miller, this is a good rum,” Plaza wrote on a photo of a bottle of Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva rum. The picture was posted a week after Plaza skipped town when his $5,000 bail was posted.

At the time, Plaza was on trial for attacking a man outside of a Bronx nightclub in June 2014, authorities said.
Prosecutors said Plaza attacked Angel Segura — a stranger — as he left El Aquila in Kingsbridge, breaking the man’s nose and slashing him as a man yet to be apprehended stabbed him in the back multiple times.
Segura suffered injuries that required nearly two dozen stitches and staples to his face and head. Following a two-week trial, Plaza failed to show up for court on December 4, 2015, when the jury began deliberations, officials said."
He was found guilty of first-degree assault three days later.

His social media activity began shortly thereafter, blurring his face in some of the photos posted that attracted the attention of authorities.
“He cavalierly posted photos of himself with champagne, a Glock pistol, and driving a Lamborghini. He had even taunted the prosecutor,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said. “But he could not escape justice and now he will serve his sentence.”
Plaza was nabbed by U.S. Marshals after landing at LAX Airport on June 22.
After appearing in Bronx Supreme Court Monday, Segura began serving his 10-year sentence.
He also faces a bail-jumping charge, officials said.
