Pregnant Woman Among 5 Killed in 'Gruesome' Alabama Slayings

Five people were brutally slain in a Citronelle, Alabama home over the weekend, including a pregnant woman.

A pregnant woman is among the five victims found murdered in a southern Alabama home over the weekend in what police have called a "gruesome" scene.

Police told reporters the victims were found Saturday afternoon inside a home in Citronelle, about 30 miles northwest of Mobile. A 4-month-old infant also was found alive at the scene.

“It’s obviously a horrific scene,” Capt. Paul Burch of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

Burch said one of the victims was "about five months pregnant."

While detectives said late Saturday they were still working to identify the victims, a suspect has been arrested in the crime.

Derrick Dearman of Leakesville, Mississippi, walked into the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Saturday afternoon and confessed to the crimes, the AP reports. Burch said he expects Dearman to face five or six counts of capital murder.

Detectives are still processing the scene and are attempting to establish the relationship between Dearman and the victims.

"Given the way the scene looks, we’re going to be here a couple of days," Burch said.

Police did say that an infant was found alive at the scene of the crime. However, authorities are not identifying any of the victims,  said.

Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich told reporters she’s never seen a crime scene so gruesome.

“We have a horrible scene here,” she said.
