On September 17, Janelle Della-Libera, an event planner, was pumping gas at her local station when a man pulled up in a car next to her and spotted her purse sitting in the driver’s seat. The thief got out of his car, opened her door and snatched the purse.
The 32-year-old saw what was happening and jumped on the hood of his car to get the bag back. She eventually slid off the roof of the car and he drove over her left leg.
“I surprised him. I think I scared him. He was cursing quite a bit,” Della-Libera told Inside Edition. “When my instincts took over, that was the result. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.”
Police say that the purse and what was inside value about $2,000. The victim had her wallet on her.
She and her family laugh about the situation now that they know it could have been much worse.
“He could have killed me with his car… He could have beat me up, he was a big man,” she said.
Della-Libera was coming home from an event that afternoon and said she was distracted by what her day was like.
She recommends that drivers lock their cars and that women should always keep their purse on them.
