A 3-year-old boy took his father's gun off of a dresser and accidentally fatally shot himself.
A 3-year-old boy fatally shot himself in the head while his parents slept in their Illinois home, police said.
According to police, Jeremiah Lovelle Banks was playing with his father’s 9mm semi-automatic handgun, which was registered, around 3 a.m. on Thursday when the deadly shot was fired.

According to reports, detectives believe the youngster took the gun from atop a dresser in his parent’s bedroom. Cops said they believe he then went into the living room and pulled the trigger.
Police received a 911 call to the home and Banks was found with a gunshot wound to head. He was transported to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, but was later pronounced dead.
No charges have been filed as of yet, but the Lake County state’s attorney’s office will reportedly review the case.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services are also investigating the boy’s mother and father for allegations of neglect, a department spokeswoman told the Chicago Sun. No charges have been filed as of yet, but the Lake County state’s attorney’s office will review the case.
