A hospital stay can never be easy for patients and their families, but some nurses and other medical workers went above and beyond the call of duty in 2016.

There were incidents of nurses and staff that helped wedding preparations, marriage proposals and even a dance. InsideEdition.com takes a look back at those hospital workers.
In July, the staff at a Washington state hospital helped a man with just a week left to live wed his longtime girlfriend. That same month, an Oklahoma teen saw his health declining in a battle against cancer, and decided the only thing he wanted to do was marry his high school sweetheart.
In September, nurses at Duke University Hospital threw a wedding for one woman and her fiance who had to postpone their big day multiple times due to her battle with kidney failure.
There was also a 5-year-old boy with cancer who proposed to his favorite nurse at a San Diego hospital, who used a pipe cleaner as a ring.
It wasn’t just holy matrimony that hospital workers took part in. InsideEdition.com told the story of one California RN who walks the halls of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital singing to patients because “it reminds them they are still a human being,” he said.
At a Pennsylvania hospital, new moms and nurses are not the only people who snuggle with newborns. There is a team of women who volunteer at the Magee-Women’s Hospital of UPMC, spending their days providing comfort and their loving touch to babies suffering from drug withdrawal.

To celebrate a patient's double lung transplant earlier this year, doctors and nurses at Florida Hospital learned the dance from Silento's "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" and joined the 60-year-old patient in a dance for the first time with her new lungs.
