A mother and her 14-year-old daughter, whose bodies were found in a North Carolina well, died from stab wounds, according to recent media accounts.

Dawn Ward, 40, and daughter Taylor Carroll were found dead last week, 40 feet down a residential well, according to CBS affiliate WNCT-TV. Autopsies conducted this week by the Eastern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death.
Ward’s estranged husband, Jeffrey Ward, 25, has been charged with two counts of murder and is being held without bail, officials said. His 24-year-old brother, Jerrett, is charged with two counts of being an accessory after the fact and is being held on $1 million bail, according to The Associated Press.

Jeffrey Ward is not the girl's father, authorities said.
Officials have not released a motive for the killings.
The brothers have not yet entered pleas, the wire service said.
