INSIDE EDITION’s Megan Alexander asks about the differing opinions of pregnant women having an occasional alcoholic drink.
Should pregnant women drink wine?
Okay ladies, have you heard the news that actress Kate Hudson was photographed apparently sipping a glass of red wine while six months pregnant?
Some people are outraged and say this is a no-no for a pregnant woman. Others say one glass of wine is just fine. What do you think?
My doctor told me that he was fine with one glass of wine, on occasion. He also said one small cup of black coffee was okay. But I know that many of my friends have doctors who do not agree with this.
The Surgeon General does warn that alcohol may cause birth defects. And the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the March of Dimes say do not drink any alcohol.
The March of Dimes reports that a recent government survey revealed that one in 12 pregnant women drink during pregnancy, and about one in 30 pregnant women report binge drinking (five or more drinks). Women who binge drink or drink heavily greatly increase the risk of alcohol-related damage to their babies. For more information, go to marchofdimes.com.
While I think one glass of wine seems okay, perhaps it's better to be safe, than sorry. What do you think? Let me know on our INSIDE EDITION Facebook page.
