After April the giraffe delivered her highly anticipated offspring this weekend, it appears mother and son are doing just great.
About 45 minutes after arriving at an upstate New York adventure park, the newborn was struggling to stand, but managed to take his first steps, owner Jordan Patch told Inside Edition.

The calf weighed in at 129 pounds and stands 5 feet, 9 inches tall.
Their “day is pretty simple,” Patch said. “At sunrise … the lights go on, the calf wakes up to come over to mom for a big breakfast.”
After nursing, the two gallop around their enclosure.

Male giraffes are often standoffish about their progeny, but Oliver, in an adjacent stall, seems to be interested in his little guy, Patch said.
There’s a lot “nose-to-nose lick on one another,” he said. “We’re anticipating a good success [from] introducing Oliver to the baby in a couple of months.”
An online contest is underway to name the new arrival.
