It has been 27-year-old Angie Hamouie's dream to be accepted into Georgetown University's residency program since starting her medical degree.
A Texas woman created a wedding registry to celebrate the changing of her name — not to '"Mrs." but to "Dr."

Angie Hamouie 27, wanted to celebrate her commitment to her medical degree in the way others might celebrate their commitment to their significant other.
And that’s why she created a save-the-date website for her event, "Graduwedding."
“I really, as you can tell, love education,” Hamouie joked, in an interview with InsideEdition.com.
Hamouie explained this was a way for her to celebrate her acceptance into Georgetown University to pursue her medical residency after graduating from medical school at University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
“It was my dream since my first year of medical school to go to Georgetown University,” she said. “I wanted to declare my love from the top of a mountain about how happy I was that I was going to this place that I’ve been working so hard and so long to go to.”
So, as a way of explaining to people what the accomplishment means to her, she decided to host her graduation party in the form of a wedding.
“It was a really big deal to me, that it wasn’t just some average kind of party,” Hamouie explained. “I thought, ‘Well, people go really big for their weddings,’ so if I pretended to marry my diploma, maybe that would convey how big of a deal this was to me.”
And, while the next chapter of her life will be in general obstetrics and gynecology instead of with a husband, Hamouie said her celebration was equally as important.
“[For a lot of women] there’s pressure to pursue either a career or a marriage and when we really only celebrate one, that sends a subtle message about what were expected to prioritize,” she said. “I’m really proud of this achievement. I’m committed to what I’ve learned and I’m committed to using this knowledge to better my life and the lives of the people around me.”
