Cop Reveals Tense Encounter With Knife-Wielding Mall Attacker: 'I Don't Think I'm a Hero'

Officer Jason Falconer is talking about the incident at the Crossroads Center Mall for the first time.

The man who took out a terrorist at a Minnesota mall last September says he is not a hero, despite taking down a terrorist on a random stabbing spree.

Surveillance video captured a crazed man wearing a security guard uniform who showed up at the mall and began stabbing people at random.

Ten victims suffered stab wounds before Jason Falconer stepped in.

“I don't think I’m a hero,” he told Inside Edition as he spoke for the first time about the incident.

Falconer recalled what happened at the Crossroads Center Mall in St. Cloud, Minn., when the madman approached him.

“The individual asked me if I was Muslim in a way that wasn't like a question. It was more like a demand. And I stepped back and said, 'No,'" he recalled. “He kinda looked at me and then turned away from me, and as he turned away from me, I could see that he had two knives in his hands.”

Falconer, an off-duty cop who was at the mall shopping for his son, watched in shock as the suspect ran into Macy's. The shopper went in hot pursuit brandishing a gun.

Surveillance cameras show Falconer stepping backwards, and then opening fire. The suspect, who clutched on to his knife, was shot.

The terror was over. The suspect was identified as Dahir Adan, 22, a Somali-American.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, calling Adan a "soldier of the Islamic state."

The suspect had no way of knowing that he was messing with the wrong shopper. Falconer is not only a cop — he's a competitive shooter who owns his own gun range.

The NRA later named Falconer law enforcement officer of the year for 2016.
