Her quick thinking may have saved her friend.
A 12-year-old girl used her knowledge from the book Hunger Games to tie a tourniquet after her friend badly cut herself.
Mackenzie George, 12, was at a marsh with friends in Massachusetts when she slipped and deeply cut her leg on a metal cofferdam. The gash was 10 inches long, an inch and a half deep and badly bleeding.

That’s when Mackenzie’s friend, Megan Gething, jumped into action.
The pre-teen had learned how to tie a tourniquet from reading about it in The Hunger Games and was able to use a friend’s shorts to slow down Mackenzie’s bleeding.
“I felt way safer than I would have felt if nothing was happening," Mackenzie told InsideEdition.com. "She made me feel really calm. I was really surprised that she got that method from a book like not from anything professional.”
Megan told the Gloucester Times that the only thing going through her mind was helping her friend.
Paramedics eventually showed up and were able to transfer Mackenzie to the hospital, where she underwent surgery to close the wound.
She received 48 stitches.
Mackenzie’s parents said they are extremely grateful for Megan’s actions.
“It’s truly remarkable," Gregory George, Mackenzie’s father, told InsideEdition.com. "She has no formal training. She is 12 years old. To think that quickly is remarkable and to learn it from reading in a book is just unbelievable."
Mackenzie is expected to make a full recovery.
