In 2008 TV reporter Christiane Amanpour said a source told her Osama bin Laden was hiding in a villa in Pakistan, but the comments didn't receive much attention at the time. INSIDE EDITION has the story that now takes an eerie tone.
Did Christiane Amanpour have the scoop of the century about Osama bin Laden's whereabouts more than two years ago?
The ABC News veteran appeared with Gary Shandling and Alec Baldwin on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher. The date was October 2008.
Out of nowhere she revealed the world's most wanted terrorist was living in a villa in Pakistan.
"Isn't Osama bin Laden laughing his [expletive deleted] off?" said Shandling.
Shandling referred to bin Laden as living in a cave.
"He's in a cave somewhere," said Shandling.
"He's not. I've just talked to someone very knowledgeable. This woman, who is in American intelligence, thinks that he's in a villa, a nice comfortable villa in Pakistan," said Amanpour.
The remark was almost lost in the crosstalk until Shandling raised it again.
"Osama bin Laden's cave, wherever he is. We're letting him just get away," said Shandling.
"It's not a cave. It's a villa," said Amanpour.
"You know it's a villa. You know where he is," said a cynical Shandling.
"Definitely," said Amanpour.
Amanpour told INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent, "I said it, not because I knew that, but because I had been talking to a former CIA official who had clearly been working very hard along with the rest of the intelligence community on trying to track Osama bin Laden ever since 9-11."
The long forgotten TV moment has now gone viral and people are amazed at how eerily accurate she turned out to be.
Trent said, "You look back on that video today and you think what?"
"I think, Wow! I think that's cool," said Amanpour.
And there's no mistaking the joy at a Presidential cabinet meeting where there were smiles all around. The New York Post front page calls the President "The Grin Reaper."
In a live televised address on Sunday night, President Obama said, "The United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden."
The President's address was the TV event of the year with an audience of 57 million, the largest audience to hear a Presidential address in a decade.
But there is continuing fury that Pakistani leaders may have known all along where bin Laden was hiding.
Robin Roberts said on Good Morning America, "There are many Americans who are more than upset with Pakistan."
CIA director Leon Panetta says Pakistan was "involved or incompetent."
CBS Chief Foreign Correspondent Lara Logan told INSIDE EDITION's Deborah Norville it's a safe bet that other Al Qaeda leaders are also hiding there.
"Osama was living on Pakistan soil and all of the other main leaders that the U.S. is after, most of them are on Pakistan soil as well," said Logan.
And we're learning more details about bin Laden's life behind the compound's walls. He had $750 in euros and two emergency phone numbers sewn into his clothing, just in case he had to escape at a moment's notice.
His youngest's wife's passport was found in the compound. Perhaps it was for her that bin Laden dyed his grey beard to look younger.
Pakistan plans to bulldoze the compound so it cannot become a shrine to the evil mastermind of 9-11.
