As many as 13 people have been killed and 50 others injured after a van drove into pedestrians in a Barcelona area popular with tourists in an act of terrorism, officials said Thursday.
The white van jumped the curb and slammed into people Thursday afternoon in Las Ramblas. Authorities responding to the area have urged onlookers to get indoors and stay away.
Two men exited the vehicle and were believed to be holding hostages inside a restaurant in the city, The Associated Press reported.
Police later made two arrests, including the suspect who rented the van, Driss Oukabir.
