A bodyguard working on Herman Cain's campaign turns out to be the same bodyguard who was in the middle of the bitter split between Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva. INSIDE EDITION has the details.
He's the bodyguard by the side of surging presidential candidate Herman Cain.
It turns out he used to protect another newsmaker, Mel Gibson's ex, Oksana Grigorieva, and he's a convicted felon.
Kristian Otto Herzog was at the center of Grigorieva's explosive battle with Gibson over whether he beat her.
"What you heard was the conversations where Mel became upset and lost his temper. What you didn't hear was the conversations where he was the one trying to calm her down," said Herzog.
Herzog also claimed that he and Grigorieva had a romantic relationship, which she denies.
"I started to get closer and closer with her, and eventually we became intimate," said Herzog.
So how did this man, who pled no contest to impersonating a police officer in 2009, end up protecting the Republican Party's rising star?
Herzog was at Cain's side at recent campaign stops in Detroit, and Iowa.
Cain's spokesperson told INSIDE EDITION, "He was briefly contracted to provide security services to the campaign. He is no longer providing such services."
[UPDATE: After fulfilling the conditions of his probation, Herzog’s criminal conviction in Los Angeles was dismissed in March, 2012.]
