Former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky gave an interview to proclaim he’s not a pedophile, but it seems to have backfired. INSIDE EDITION reports.
It was the moment of hesitation that is echoing across America. Former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky's stumbling answer to what should have been an easy question is triggering fury.
Bob Costas aked, "Are you sexually attracted to boys, to underage boys?"
Sandusky replied, "Am I sexually attracted to underage boys?"
Finally, his answer was, "Sexually attracted? You know, no. I enjoy young people."
Whoopi Goldberg could barely contain her anger on The View.
Goldberg said, "He did not go, 'Hell no! Hell no this didn't happen!' "
And psychologist Wendy Walsh, co-host of The Doctors, says Sandusky's response speaks volumes.
"This is often a clue to lying. When somebody who is about to tell a lie needs time to formulate their thoughts, they will repeat the question of the interviewer. And he repeated the question word for word," said Walsh.
Sandusky's decision to speak out to NBC Sports anchor Bob Costas has clearly backfired.
Robin Roberts on Good Morning America said, "I don't even know where to start. He pauses. He hesitates. He admits to showering with young boys!"
The New York Daily News front page read, "Creep Speaks!"
In the the exclusive phone interview, the former coach accused of molesting eight boys does proclaim his innocence.
Costas asked, "Are you denying you had any inapproriate sexual contact with any of these underage boys?"
"Yes, I am," said Sandusky.
But he admitted horsing around in the showers with boys as young as 10 years old.
"I have horsed around with kids. I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their leg without intent of sexual contact," said Sandusky.
Costas asked Sandusky's attorney Joe Amendola, "Would you allow your own childen to be alone with your client?"
"Absolutely," said Amendola.
But after the interview, his estranged wife posted on her Facebook page: "OMG! Did Joe just say he would allow my kids to be alone with Jerry Sandusky?"
