Demi Moore is divorcing Ashton Kutcher, saying she holds certain values and vows sacred. Some say Kutcher’s alleged cheating is the cause. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.
It's over for Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. She is divorcing him.
"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton," she said in a surprisingly candid statement.
Moore added, "As a woman, a mother and a wife, there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life."
Following Moore's stunning announcement, Kutcher went on his Twitter account to say: "I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi. Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail. Love and light, AK."
Moore's announcement of her divorce plans came late Thursday, via the Associated Press.
Their marriage had become strained in recent months following reports that Kutcher allegedly had a one night stand with 22-year-old Sara Leal.
A photo was taken the night Kutcher supposedly partied in a hot tub with Leal and another young woman last September, on his 6th wedding anniversary.
In recent weeks Moore appeared to be losing weight under the strain of her failing marriage. She turned up looking gaunt at several public appearances.
Many thought the marriage would never work because of the couples big 16-year-age difference. She is 49, he is 33.
The divorce comes just as Kutcher's career is hitting a high note, taking over Charlie Sheen's leading role on Two and a Half Men. And he doesn't seem ready to take his wedding ring off just yet.
He tweeted a photo of himself wearing it, just one hour before demi formally announced the split.
Moore said, "This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation."
