One 11-year-old's true grit is inspiring the nation in a video that is going viral.
In an elementary school field day race in Columbus, Ohio, little Matt Woodrun fell behind early.
Matt has cerebral palsy. He knew he couldn't win, but he was doggedly determined to finish the 400-meter race, no matter what.
He soon was struggling. His legs filled with pain and it looked like he was ready to give up. Then his gym teacher ran beside him to give him words of encouragement.
One by one, his classmates ran up behind him to cheer him on. The crowd swelled and they began chanting.
"Let's go Matt, let's go!" cheered the crowd.
It was an inspiring moment. With Matt showing extraordinary courage and stick-to-it-iveness, he crossed the finish line.
There were cheers, tears, hugs and high-fives as Matt proved you don't have to finish first to be a winner. The video, shot by Matt's mom, is being seen around the world.
"Matt is a fighter, always has been," said Matt's mother.
Matt said when he heard his classmates chanting his name, he knew he would make it.
"It was encouraging—really cool. Really helped me get through the rest of the race," said Matt.
