Jodie Foster may be proud of her own modern family, but her relationship with her father remains divided. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.
“I love you, I love you, I love you. You're a great mom, ” Jodie Foster's message to her mom at the Golden Globes was moving, but she never mentioned her dad because her feelings about him are very different.
90-year-old Lucius Foster watched Jodie's now famous Golden Globes speech on TV. "It's been a long time. My family are very divided right now," he said.
You would never believe his daughter is a two-time Oscar® winner and a revered figure in Hollywood. Jodie's dad has been in jail, he drives a 30-year-old pick-up truck and he gets around with the help of a walker. He split up with Jodie's mom when she was pregnant with her.
Lucius Foster was sentenced to five years in prison for fraud in December, 2011, but was released after seven months. He took $100,000 in deposits on homes that did not exist.
He was accused of using Jodie's name to win his victims' confidence, but he denied that, saying, "I wouldn't dream of using her name and I haven't."
After getting out of prison, Jodie Foster's ailing dad returned home to his shabby apartment building in Los Angeles.
He talked to INSIDE EDITION about his famous daughter and said she has not spoken to him for nearly 15 years. He told us he watched her speech at the Golden Globes with pride, but said he has known for years that Jodie is gay.
Jodie has never told him who is the father of her two children, his grandchildren. He also explained her poignant reference to her mom's illness.
At the Golden Globes, Jodie said, "Mom, I know you're inside those blue eyes somewhere and that there are so many things that you won't understand tonight." Jodie's father said her 84-year-old mom is suffering from dementia.
Jodie's dad said he's scraping by on just $166 a week and may soon have to move out of his apartment. He said he does not want his daughter's help. "I don't want any help from anybody. I do everything by myself," he said.
Just as well because it seems unlikely that Jodie wants to have anything to do with him.
