Former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle survived several tours of duty, only to be shot to death at home, allegeldy by a former Marine. INSIDE EDITION reports.
The grieving widow of an American hero told INSIDE EDITION, it was like living in constant fear for her husband's life.
When we interviewed Chris Kyle a year ago, the former Navy SEAL's autobiography "American Sniper" was number one on The New York Times bestseller list. He and wife, Taya told INSIDE EDITION how the stress of war put their marriage in the cross hairs.
"My heart couldn't take it. He was constantly deployed and always in a war zone. I don't know that many people who had that many years in a row of constant wartime deployment without a break," said Taya.
Chris said, "It's my duty to serve my country. I put country before my family and that definitely caused tension," said Chris.
Taya said she was proud of her husband's remarkable war record, but that 10 years of fighting for his country nearly destroyed their family.
"My heart couldnt take it anymore. Our life was falling apart," said Taya.
The nation is in shock today after Chris and a buddy, Chad Littlefield, were shot dead at point-blank range.
Police have charged a former U.S. Marine, said to be suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
They had invited the troubled vet to a shooting range at the exclusive Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose, Texas, as part of his mental health recovery.
