Melissa McCarthy's new movie topped the box office, but everyone is talking about the comments one film critic made over her weight. INSIDE EDITION has the scoop.
Melissa McCarthy is having the last laugh.
Her new movie, Identity Thief, was No. 1 at the box office this weekend, earning $36 million.
Now, famed movie critic, Rex Reed is coming under fire for lambasting the actress about her weight in a mean-spirited review.
In the New York Observer, Reed calls the Mike & Molly star a "female hippo" and "tractor-sized."
The language set off a firestorm.
Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet tweeted: "Turns out, Rex Reed didn't die sad and alone 10 years ago. Nope, he's alive and starving for attention, so let's give him some."
Al Roker, who's had his own struggles with weight, was outraged.
"He hasn't been relavent since Superman 1," said Roker.
Now, another case of insensitivity is receiving national attention. Someone posted a photo of former Green Bay Packers cheerleader Kaitlyn Collins with the caption: "Like if you agree the Packers have the worst cheerleaders in the NFL!" Hundreds of nasty comments ensued.
So the brave Wisconsin cheerleader made an anti-bullying video of her own. In the video, 21-year-old Collins holds up some of the vicious things that were said about her. Like: "Doesn't get any uglier. Truly an eyesore."
But, she also holds up touching words of support she received from complete strangers, like: "Wow! I think that was mean. She isn't ugly, and she is also someone's daughter."
INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander asked Collins, "When you first clicked on that link and started reading those comments, what was your reaction?"
"We're all human beings, and to say those kinds of things, you really have to take a hard look at yourself. Why would you say those kinds of things?" said Collins.
Collins says she hopes people will be more sensitive about what they say. Whether it's about a movie star or a pretty cheerleader.
"We have to stop being cruel to each other," said Collins.
