Actor Michael Douglas publicly weighs in on his son Cameron's recent sentence after the 31-year-old was convicted on drug charges. INSIDE EDITION has the details
Actor Michael Douglas addressed his son Cameron's five-year jail sentence after being convicted on drug charges.
Douglas says it may be a blessing in disguise for Cameron: "My son has not been sober for this length of time since he was 13 years old. He was going to be dead or somebody was going to kill him."
The Oscar®-winning actor was interviewed on the Today show. There was criticism that Cameron was handled with kid gloves because of his famous father, grandfather, and step-mother Catherine Zeta-Jones. But Douglas says that's not true.
"It's an adequate amount of time to spend in jail and the best part of it is he will be able to start his life afresh," he said.
Douglas and his ex-wife Diandra have come under fire, accused of being poor parents to the 31-year-old Cameron. One blistering letter to the judge claimed Diandra once said, "I don't like this child. I don't think I even love him."
"As far as his mother was concerned, she was a very young mother when she had Cameron and her skills were limited to such an extent," said Douglas.
