O.J. Simpson appeared in court seeking to have his conviction overturned, and time in prison is showing on the disgraced football star. INSIDE EDITION reports.
Age is catching up with O.J. Simpson.
The 65-year-old disgraced football star was noticeably greyer when he appeared in court in Las Vegas Monday—the first time he has been seen in public in five years. He also looked like he had gained considerable weight. His eyes appeared red.
Compare him now to the way he looked when he was famously found not guilty of the murder of his wife, Nicole, and her friend, Ron Goldman, in 1995, and there is a considerable difference.
Simpson has reportedly put on 50 pounds in prison.
Several sheriff's deputies ushered Simpson into the courtroom. He was older, heavier and shackled. He literally shuffled to his seat. With so much on the line for the former Heisman Trophy winner, he still looked over at a print reporter who'd covered for him 20 years, nodded and smiled.
Simpson smiled as he chatted with his lawyer. He sipped from a cup of water and spoke to the deputy sheriff.
Simpson was convicted of kidnapping and armed robbery after he burst into a Las Vegas hotel room and confronted two sports-memorabilia dealers at gunpoint.
During Monday's hearing, Simpson seemed to be talking about how much he could get for his prison uniform.
"This outfit I've got on, somebody might pay a thousand dollars for it," said Simpson.
Simpson's daughter, Arnelle took the stand Monday and told of having dinner with her father and his attorney shortly before the confrontation.
Simpson's bid for a new trial is being opposed by Las Vegas prosecutors, including 27-year-old lawyer Leah Beverly who had manicured nails that were multi-colored. Every fingernail had a different pattern.
