In another preventive measure, Angelina Jolie is planning to have her ovaries removed following her double mastectomy. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.
Angelina Jolie's medical ordeal is not yet over.
The Oscar-winning actress who stunned the world with news that she'd undergone a double mastectomy, now says she's going to have her ovaries removed.
The new issue of People magazine, out Friday says that Jolie will go under the knife soon.
Michelle Tan, Sr. Editor of People told INSIDE EDITION, "Even though Angelina Jolie has had a double mastectomy, what People has learned in this week's issue is that she's still at a high risk for ovarian cancer. So, she will have to undergo surgery to remove her ovaries in the future."
INSIDE EDITION spoke to Dr. Lisa Masterson of television's The Doctors who said, "Removing ovaries is a simple procedure, but it's physiologically a very radical procedure on the body because the body goes into a surgical menopause, which is much harder on the body than a natural menopause."
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt is sharing his feelings about Angelina's brave decision.
"I'm quite emotional about it, of course," Pitt tells USA Today. "She could have stayed absolutely private about it and I don't think anyone would have been none the wiser with such good results. But it was really important to her to share the story and that others would understand it doesn't have to be a scary thing."
Pitt's mom, Jane Pitt said in a statement: "We're so very proud of Angie. This means so much to our family, especially our grandchildren. We love her dearly."
Jolie's father, Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, says he found out about his daughter's double-mastectomy the same way everybody else did—by reading her op-ed in The New York Times. Voight says he saw Jolie just two days before the story broke, but had no idea what she'd gone through.
"I was as surprised as anyone and deeply moved by the way she's handled this," Voight told the New York Daily News. "She's a very extraordinary person."
Jolie's doctor at the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Beverly Hills is also speaking out.
Dr. Kristi Funk said in a press conference, "The Pink Lotus Breast Center applauds Angelina Jolie's bold choices regarding her BRCA mutation. And we hope that the awareness she is raising around the world will save countless lives."
In a blog on the Pink Lotus' website entitled: A Patient's Journey: Angelina Jolie, the doctor describes how Jolie decided to preserve her natural nipples during the reconstruction process.
Dr. Masterson told INSIDE EDITION, "They take everything out except for the areola and the nipple. They leave that there and try to stay away from the nerves that supply it because that's the issue with the nipples, is that you want to keep the sensitivity."
So what has life been like for Jolie and Pitt's six children over the past few months? Brad Pitt told USA Today, "We set up our own little post-op recovery that became pretty fun. You make an adventure out of it."
Tan told INSIDE EDITION, "Sometimes, she would be a little bit more tired, according to one source. And they did have more family movie nights indoors, but Angelina was very focused on maintaining a regular routine for her children amidst everything happening."
