In a stunning revelation, the famed “Dog Whisperer” Cesar Millan reveals that along with his personal life spiraling out of control, he lost $10 million. INSIDE EDITION has the report.
“The dog whisperer” Cesar Millan says depsite having a hit show beloved by millions of dog owners, he ended up broke.
“At the end of the day, I was left with no money,” he said. “I was broke.”
In an interview with Rock Center's Kate Snow, Millan says he lost 10 million dollars through a series of bad business decisions.
In fact, he doesn't even own the rights to his famous nickname, “the dog whisperer.”
Millan says his life went into a downward spiral three years ago when his adored pit bull, "Daddy," died.
Millan said, “He was better than me.”
A few weeks later, his wife of 16 years ended their marriage, breaking the news in a phone call. He hit rock bottom and attempted suicide.
“I made a decision and took a whole bunch of pills and tried to kill myself,” said Millan.
His two teenage sons saved him, but even at that moment, he was still overwhelmed by grief for his dead dog.
“The kids found me, yeah. I remember them saying that I said, ‘Take me to the ranch. I want to die with Daddy.’”
While confined to a psychiatric hospital, Millan discovered that many of the patients were fans of his.
“The patients there knew me. They didn't trust the psychologists, but they trusted me. So they wanted Cesar to be in the consultations." he explained. “So I became their pack leader.”
He has a new show airing on Nat Geo, Cesar Millan's Leader of the Pack.
Now, the man who the world will always know as "the dog whisperer" hopes all his troubles are behind him.
He said, "It's not the successes, it's when you go down and come back up."
