That's one of the stunning revelations in a new book about Jack and Jackie Kennedy, These Few Precious Days: The Final Year Of Jack With Jackie by Christopher Andersen.
The alleged relationship between the blondest of all bombshells and JFK has become the stuff of legends, culminating in her infamous rendition of "Happy Birthday" at Madison Square Garden.
This book takes it up a notch, quoting the late Peter Lawford, who was married to JFK's sister as saying that Marilyn called Jackie at the White House to tell her about the affair.
The book says Marilyn told Jackie that her husband had already made up his mind about leaving his family and starting a new life with the sex symbol.
According to Andersen, Jackie responded sarcastically: "Marilyn, you'll marry Jack. That's great. And you'll move into the White House and you'll assume the responsibilities of first lady, and I'll move out and you'll have all the problems."
Marilyn reportedly told a friend, "Can't you just see me as first lady?"
Was JFK really ready to marry Marilyn Monroe? We'll never really know, but it's fun to wonder about it.
