Oprah is making her comeback to the silver screen after a 15 year absence in Lee Daniels' The Butler. INSIDE EDITION spoke to the TV titan about the role.
It's Oprah's return to the big screen. The TV titan stars in Lee Daniels' The Butler.
Oprah told INSIDE EDITION’s Les Trent, “I did this because I wanted the fullness of the story to be told.”
The film is based on the real-life story of Eugene Allen, a White House butler who served eight presidents. Forest Whitaker plays the title character. Oprah stars as his wife, Gloria.
This is Oprah's first film in 15 years. She was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in The Color Purple.
Trent asked Oprah, “Why after so many years did you decide to get involved in this project?”
She said, “Well, because I thought there are so many people whose names never made the history books, who are part of the movement that made this country what it is today.”
In the movie Oprah has a steamy love scene with actor Terrence Howard. But it wasn't the easiest scene to shoot.
Oprah said, “The director would yell, ‘Fake! Fake! Fake!'”
Trent asked Howard about the scene, “Did she give you a hard time with some of those scenes?”
He said, “No, I think Oprah kind of had a crush on me a little bit.”
Meantime, Oprah is also promoting her new interview with Lindsay Lohan. It's the troubled actress' first TV chat since finishing a 90 day stint in rehab.
Oprah told the anchors on CBS This Morning that Lohan is making a turnaround.
She said, “I felt like she was honest and authentic, she's ready. I asked ‘What's different now than the five different times you've been through rehab?’ She said before she was forced by the court to stay out of jail.”
Gayle King asked, “Do you believe her this time?”
Oprah said, “Yes, she looks good.”
Speaking of Lohan, she's filling in for her friend Chelsea Handler on Chelsea Lately. The episode airs Monday night at 11 pm on the E! network.
