For the first time in 39 years, morning meteorologist Al Roker slept in and missed his show on The Weather Channel. INSIDE EDITION has the scoop.
It's a first for Today show weatherman Al Roker.
Savannah Guthrie reported, "There's some breaking news this morning. It's that Al Roker, for the first time in 39 years overslept."
That's right. Roker overslept, but not for the Today show. He was a no-show for his early broadcast on The Weather Channel, Wake Up With Al.
On the Today show, Roker fessed up about what happened.
"Well, the alarm clock on my phone didn't go off and somebody said, 'What's your backup? I said for 39 years, I didn't need one," said Roker.
Guess what happened when Matt Lauer tweeted: "Rip Van Roker" a reference to Rip Van Winkle. Matt says some people misread the tweet and thought Roker was dead.
"I tweeted out Rip Van Roker and a lot of tweets back saying they thought it was R.I.P Al Roker," said Lauer.
