The Red Sox gave their city something to cheer about after a tragic year when they became the 2013 World Series champs. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
With the final World Series pitch, Boston celebrated a triumphant end to a year filled with so much tragedy.
In Fenway Park and out on the streets the chant was the same as people were shouting, “Boston strong! Boston strong!”
Some fans knelt down to kiss the Boston Marathon finish line, where six months ago the unthinkable happened. The Boston Marathon bombings were the first thing on the mind of World Series MVP David Ortiz.
Ortiz told the crowd, “This is for you Boston!”
Now, headlines say it all. In The Boston Herald they said, "Redemption Strong" and “Tested and Triumphant" in The Boston Globe.
Red Sox players celebrated on the field by waving flags and the delirious fans cheered them right back.
Not everything was peaceful. Rowdy fans overturned a car. Police say nobody was hurt. One photo caught a smartly-dressed fan standing on the overturned car. The car's owner, 28-year-old Chad Duncan wants to press charges.
Other fans were cheering from the roof of cars and some guys were dangling from traffic lights, not a smart idea.
But a few knuckleheads couldn't dampen the celebration for a city and a nation, with the same inspirational rallying cry: “Boston strong!”
