Mariah Carey’s incredibly popular hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” almost never happened. INSIDE EDITION has the just-revealed secrets.
It's one of the most popular holiday songs of all time, Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You."
But there are secrets we can now reveal about the modern day Christmas classic.
The song, 20 years old this year, almost did not get recorded because Carey thought it was too early in her career to release a holiday song.
VH1 correspondent Mike Adam told INSIDE EDITION, "Back then, people thought of Christmas albums as Greatest Hits albums. When you're doing that, you're pretty much about to go to Vegas and work on the strip for the rest of your life."

The song was written in record time.
"Only 15 minutes, it's kind of crazy. The fact that they put this together so quickly and it became such a big part of our culture and Christmas is phenomenal," said Adam.
The music video also features a special cameo, Carey's ex-husband, music executive Tommy Mottola, playing Santa Claus.
This holiday season is loaded with popular singers vying for Christmas classic status.
There's Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, and Darius Rucker to name a few.
Who knows, maybe one of these will be talked about 20 years from now, just like Carey!
