While police officers buried one of their own in New York City, other officers around the country came under fire leading many to wonder if there is a war on cops. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
Two Los Angeles police officers came under ambush on Sunday night leading many to wonder whether there is a war on cops.
Neither cop was injured and one suspect was arrested.
Another frightening ambush of cops happened in Dade City, Florida, where shots were fired at two sheriff's deputies sitting in their patrol cars in a church parking lot. Fortunately, the deputies were not hurt, and a manhunt is now underway for the shooter.
Meanwhile, embattled New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio arrived for the NYPD Police Academy graduation ceremony at fabled Madison Square Garden on Monday.
There were boos and some applause as de Blasio spoke but row upon row of rookies sat silently.
At the graduation, de Blasio said, "We mourn detective Rafael Ramos and detective Wenjian Liu, they stood up for all that was good and right. They gave us hope by their presence among us. They will not be forgotten."
Some cops accuse de Blasio of sympathizing with protestors over the shooting death of Michael Brown and the chokehold death of Eric Garner.
Over the weekend, de Blasio faced a stunning rebuke as hundreds of uniformed officers turned their backs when he appeared on an outdoor video screen at the funeral for Officer Rafael Ramos, who was murdered execution-style as he and his partner sat in their patrol car.
New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton is coming to de Blasio's defense and criticizing the cops who turned their backs on him.
Bratton said on Face The Nation, ‘I certainly don't support that action. I thought it was very inappropriate at that event. It was an event to honor Officer Ramos and to bring politics into this is very wrong.”
Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani agrees but says de Blasio needs to take steps to repair the damage, saying, “I believe that Mayor de Blasio needs to apologize. I said it from day one that he has to do that to get it over with.”
