Sarah Palin is speaking out about plans to build a mosque near the new World Trade Center. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
Sarah Palin is weighing in on a controversial plan to build a mosque close to ground zero.
She called the plan "a stab in the heart" and called on New Yorkers to reject it.
A Muslim group plans to build a 13-story mosque and community center just two blocks from ground zero. They'd have to knock down a building, which sustained major damage on 9/11 when landing gear from one of the hi-jacked planes crashed through the roof and fell right through to the basement.
There were heated exchanges over the mosque at a public hearing.
One opponent said, "It would be like removing a sunken ship from Pearl Harbor to erect a memorial for the Japanese kamikazes killed in the attack!"
Now the plan has triggered international debate. "A mosque a stone's throw away from this sacred ground? No way," a New Yorker said.
Another argued, "Go build it uptown somewhere. Don't put it here!"
But Palin made a gaffe in her tweet about the mosque. She wrote, "Doesn't it stab you in the heart? Peaceful Muslims pls refudiate."
There's no such word as refudiate, she was trying to say repudiate.
It's not the first time Sarah Palin has used the non-existent word. Last week she tried it out on Sean Hannity's show.
"They have power in their words. They could refudiate what it is that this group is saying."
Sunday she joked about her mistake: "'Refudiate', 'misunderestimate.' English is a living language. Shakespeare liked to coin new words too."
And Bristol Palin's life may be like a soap opera, so it's only natural that she and her husband to be, Levi Johnston, are pitching a reality show about their life together. So far, no takers. One published report quotes a TV executive as saying he rejected the show because "neither of them have personalities."
