Vicky Pyne's daughter gave her a special gift before she died, and now that gift lives on, thanks to an angel.
This tourist was visiting New York City for the first time when disaster struck. She lost her necklace!
No big deal, you might say. But this was a very special necklace.
The necklace was priceless because it was a gift from her daughter, Alice, who was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma.
By her 16th birthday, Alice knew her life was slipping away, so the brave teen crafted a silver necklace for her mother. It consisted of two hearts. One had an impriession of Alice's fingerprint. Another was a fingerprint of her sister. Last year, Alice died. She was only 17.
INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander asked Pyne, "Is it your most prized possession?"
She responded, "I never take it off. I sleep in it."
And now, it was gone. It happened last month.
Vicky Pyne, who lives in Manchester, England, lost the cherished necklace somewhere on the crowed streets of Manhattan while sightseeing. Panic set in quickly.
She tried retracing her steps. No luck. Reluctantly, Vicky flew back to England, and when she got home the first thing she did was put out a plea on Facebook.
Thirty-fourth Street in Manhattan. Hundreds of thousands of people walk these streets everyday. What are the chances someone would find the lost necklace? But miracles do happen.
Freddy Ortiz and his wife Emily were shopping when Freddy stopped to fix his daughter's shoe. That's when he spotted the necklace. It had been lying there about two-and-a-half hours after Vicky lost it.
Freddy told INSIDE EDITION, "It had the fingerprints on it."
The next day Freddy went on Facebook. By sheer luck, a Facebook friend shared Vicky's lost necklace story. The Ortiz family immediately sent an email to Vicky in England.
"I have amazing news for you. We have your necklace," Emily Ortiz said.
Vicky exclaimed, "Oh my God, I can't believe it."
INSIDE EDITION flew Vicky back to New York and brought her to our studios.
Alexander asked her, "Did you think this moment would ever come?"
"Oh, no, not here!" She responded.
The Ortiz family arrived. Alexander asked, "Vicky, are you ready?"
"Hi, thank you so much!" Vicky said to the Ortiz family.
The necklace, the spirit of a loving daughter has found its way back where it belongs, close to Vicky's heart.
Emily Ortiz explained to INSIDE EDITION, "We felt really good about it."
It truly is a miracle on 34th street.
