Cameron James Pettit, 28, is accused of supplying Mac Miller with counterfeit oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl.

A California man has been charged in connection with the death of hip-hop artist Mac Miller, who suffered a fatal drug overdose in his home nearly a year ago, officials said.

Cameron James Pettit, 28, is accused of supplying Miller with counterfeit oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl, according to a 42-page criminal complaint filed in the Central District of California obtained by NBC News.

Miller had asked to be outfitted with “percs,” an abbreviation for Percocet, a prescribed painkiller that contains oxycodone, prosecutors said.

Miller was found unresponsive in his Studio City home on Sept. 7, 2018. His death was deemed an accident, and later determined to have been caused by a mixed drug toxicity involving alcohol, cocaine and fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin.

He was 26.

Investigators said they served search warrants at multiple locations and recovered a plastic bag containing pills allegedly supplied by a sex worker and a madam, NBC reported.

Two days earlier, Pettit allegedly supplied Miller with counterfeit oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl, cocaine and Xanax, the criminal complaint said.

Pettit is accused of exchanging direct messages on Instagram with others reacting to Miller’s death

“I think I should probably not post anything … just to be smart,” Pettit allegedly said in one of the messages.

“I am not great … most likely I will die in jail,” Pettit is accused of saying in another message when asked how he was doing.

Born Malcolm James McCormick, Miller was a reportedly self-taught musician who focused on instruments before switching to rap in high school. The Pittsburgh native rose to fame with the debut of his mixtape, “K.I.D.S. (Kickin’ Incredibly Dope S***).”

Miller spoke publicly about his struggles with addiction. In May 2018, he was arrested after driving into a utility pole, leaving his vehicle at the scene and then testing over the legal alcohol limit.

Pettit was arrested Wednesday morning by special agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration and officers with the Los Angeles Police Department, KABC-TV reported

He has been charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance and is expected to make his initial appearance later in the day in United States District Court in downtown Los Angeles.
