Another car had collided with the Uber she and her friends were taking home from a night out in Chicago.
Getting a safe ride home from her 23rd birthday celebrations turned deadly when an Illinois woman was killed in a crash while riding in an Uber.
Jamie Poulos, of Berwyn, was riding home in an Uber after a night out in Chicago when a white Infiniti sedan driven by a 22-year-old collided with their car, the Chicago Tribune reported.
While her three friends survived the Saturday night crash with injuries, Poulos died inside the car.
“[It’s] every parent’s worst nightmare,” her mom Andrea Poulos said.
Fridays 24-year-old Brianna Woods, 23-year-old Anastacio Morales and 22-year-old Alexandria Kariott were transported to a nearby hospital. Woods was in serious condition following the crash, according to reports.
Poulos was pinned inside the car and could not be saved before the car burst into flames, a close friend of the family said in a Facebook page dedicated to remembering Poulos.
"I realize that her legs are pinned. Her legs are pinned inside the car. The driver's seat had pinned her legs back," Morales told WLS.
Poulos’ mom added, “He said she was already unconscious when he tried to pull her out, so we just pray that that’s true.”
Poulos was a student at Morton College and a shift manager at Starbucks. Her mom praised her as a dedicated employee who never missed work and was usually early to her shift.
“She was a sweetheart, and I don’t know how I’ll ever handle being without her,” her mom said.
State police are continuing to investigate the crash.
