The customers are buying up all the doughnuts in order to allow John Chhan to close early.
Locals in one Orange County, California, town line up each morning at their nearby doughnut shop to buy out all of the pastries so the owner can tend to his sick wife.
Just before 5 a.m. each morning, the line is out the door at Donut City, with people carrying off as many of the sweet treats as they can.
People are splurging on them is much sweeter than the ingredients that go into them. The folks are buying up all the doughnuts so the shop's owner can close early to take care of his beloved wife, who's recovering from a brain aneurysm.
John Chhann and his wife, Stella, have been running Donut City in Seal Beach for 30 years. Now, the community is rallying behind them when they need them the most.
"I want to do what I can," said one faithful customer to Inside Edition.
“This is what community is all about,” said another.
“My order was $36 but I gave him a $50 and told him to keep the change,” said a customer.
By 7 a.m. every doughnut in the shop is sold and a very grateful John can soon go home to take care of his wife.
Chhan cannot thank his customers enough.
