She is back in the country for the first time since being released from prison.
Amanda Knox wiped away tears as she returned to Italy for the first time since she was freed from prison and acquitted.
The 31-year-old was in the audience at a criminal justice forum when she was overcome with emotion.
At another point at the conference, Knox was seen sitting between her mother and her fiance, Christopher Robinson. She looked uncomfortable at all the attention she was getting and Robinson escorted her out for some air.
He stayed by her side during the day, fixing her hair and putting a protective hand on her back at different ties.
She arrived in Milan’s Linate Airport Thursday and was met by a swarm of paparazzi.
On Friday night, Knox was seen smiling and laughing at a cocktail party that kicked off the conference, which focuses on wrongful convictions.
Knox spent nearly four years in an Italian prison for the murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007. She was acquitted in 2011 on appeal and returned to her native in Seattle. But then in 2014, the murder conviction was reinstated, but a year later, the Italy’s highest court definitively found her innocent in 2015.
When Knox returned to Seattle, she vowed never to go back to Italy.
Kercher's family is denouncing Knox's return to Italy, calling it "inappropriate” and saying the purpose is to "keep the attention on herself.”
Knox is set to take the stage and speak on Saturday about wrongful convictions.
