They were killed in a head-on collision.

A newly engaged couple with their first child on the way was killed in a wrong-way car crash while they were reportedly on their way home from Thanksgiving dinner in Florida.

Lashay D. Waiters, 24, and 21-year-old Yvette R. Alexandre were hit head-on after Justin Lakin, 21, reportedly drove north in the southbound center lane of Interstate 75.

All three were transferred to local hospitals where they were later pronounced dead. Police said they do not know why Lakin was driving the wrong way on the highway and do not believe alcohol played a role in the tragedy. The investigation is continuing.

Alexandre had announced two weeks ago that she and Waiters were expecting their first child. The couple was also set to marry after getting engaged last month.

The pair met while attending the University of Central Florida in Orlando, according to reports.

Alexandre’s family took to social media to express their despair at the loss.

“I am overwhelmed with grief at the sudden passing of my only daughter Yvette Alexandre and her fiance Lashay Waiters," Robert Alexandre, Alexandre’s father, said. "Conversely, I am equally overwhelmed with the outpouring of love from my church family, relatives, and friends amidst the greatest tragedy I've ever had to face. It goes without saying that the pain my wife and I in particular are experiencing is immeasurable."

Alexandre’s mother also took to social media to remember how much Waiters cared for her daughter.

“While going through Lashay’s [Instagram], reminiscing about our time together, he never went without letting Yvette Alexandre and the world know how he felt about her. I love them so much. We will truly miss them.”
