The family was visiting Florida from Bristol, England, and were on their way back to their rental house in Davenport from the Kennedy Space Center when the tragic accident occurred, police said.

A family of four has been killed in a violent car crash after following GPS instructions to make a U-turn on a Florida road, police said.

Adam Stephenson, 30, was traveling west on Florida State Road 405 when he made a left turn at the intersection of Sisson Road and into the path of an eastbound black Ford F-250 pickup truck, Titusville police said.

The heavy-duty truck was unable to avoid the collision and "violently impacted" the passenger side of Stephenson’s rented Mitsubishi sedan.

Stephenson, his wife, Maryanne Stephenson, 29, his father Bryan Stephenson, 66, and his mother Sheralyn Stephenson, 56, were all killed in the crash, authorities said.

GPS in the rental car told Stephenson to make a U-turn at the intersection, likely because of an earlier crash that had blocked the road ahead, officials said.

The family was visiting Florida from Bristol, England. They were on their way back to their rental house in Davenport from the Kennedy Space Center when the tragic accident occurred, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck, James Walsh, 28, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Stephenson's brother was also on vacation in Florida but was at the family’s rental home at the time of the crash, authorities said.

Titusville police are continuing to investigate the incident.
