It's not just the flood waters that people have to worry about, but also what lurks beneath the water.
A family dog was not happy when a special guest showed up in their garage after Tropical Storm Barry brought flooding to Louisiana.
In a video shared by local authorities, the dog can be seen barking at a baby alligator that crept into the Livingston Parish home. The family discovered the reptile when the floodwaters receded.
Authorities said they wanted to warn people of the “possibility of interaction with wild animals during a flood event,” so they shared the video.
In another video shared from Mississippi, a much larger gator washed up on a highway that runs alongside a beach.
The CDC also reminded residents that floodwater can be hazardous and contain medical waste, coal ash waste or wild or stray animals.
"We have snakes that are poisonous. We have bugs, and in some cases, we have alligators,” Stephanie Wagner, the regional director of communications and marketing for the American Red Cross in Louisiana, told WDSU.
