She'd had the dog for 14 years.
It was an emotional moment for a North Carolina grandmother when she received a new pup while staying in a health facility.
Shirley Lann, 84, had just lost her dog, Kinsey, a month ago after 14 years together. It was the dog she and her late husband, who died in 2011, had shared.
“My grandma has been pretty upset about the whole thing,” Lann’s grandson, Matthew McVey, told InsideEdition.com. “We realized her mood had changed."
That’s when Lann’s daughter began looking for a new dog for her to brighten up her mood. She knew when she found “Sammy” at a local shelter that he was the one.
McVey’s mom decided to surprise Lann while she is recovering in rehabilitation facility following recent health issues, and the moment was precious.
In a video recorded of her reaction, Lann cries and holds Sammy tightly.
It was a complete surprise,” McVey said. “It has brightened her mood and gives her something to look forward to when she gets out of rehab.”
Lann will be going home to be with her new beloved pup next week.
“She thinks he’s adorable,” McVey said. "She can’t wait for him to live with her."
